A group of our year 7 and 8 girls from Newton Aycliffe attended a “women in engineering” event at New College Durham.
The Woodham Academy students took part in a range of activities to find out about roles women work within and completed engineering challenges and puzzles.
One of Woodham’s teams won the “chain” challenge where students had to create a paper chain out of recycled materials.
Students then got to meet several engineering companies and speak to them about what kind of career opportunities and training they offer for school leavers regarding careers for women in engineering, as well as meeting people who are in those roles currently.
Students were also given a tour of the new engineering department that have been developed at New College Durham to enable some of the big companies of the North-East to train their apprentices ready to work in future roles.
