Fans of Alice in Wonderland can continue the adventure with a free theatre production coming to parks across County Durham – including Newton Aycliffe Town Park.
Throughout this month, Gala Durham will be touring A Mad Hatter Adventure, a spin-off from the venue’s recent show, Alice In Wonderland.
The outdoor production follows Tomas, who loves his job at Wonderland where he’s in charge of the sensational spinning teacup.
But one night, when the park closes, the ride bursts into action and everything goes topsy-turvy, and Tomas becomes The Mad Hatter.
Reprising his role as The Mad Hatter from Alice In Wonderland, Kieron Michael will be joined by Zoe Lambert and Jude Nelson, stars of last year’s Gala pantomime Sleeping Beauty, as they play Miss Placed and The Narrator.
Alison Clark, Durham County Council’s head of culture, sport and tourism, said: “We are delighted to have seen so many people enjoy our recent production of Alice in Wonderland at Gala Durham.
“We also wanted to take the adventures of Wonderland into the community as part of our annual summer outdoor theatre programme.
“A Mad Hatter Adventure is a free, family-friendly show coming to parks and outdoor spaces across County Durham and reflects our commitment to creating accessible cultural opportunities for our residents.
“We encourage everyone to go along to their local performance and see this fantastic show.”
The tour will show with two performances each day, at 11am and 2pm, beginning at Glenholme Park in Crook on Wednesday 16 August.
The show will then visit Blackhill and Consett Park on Thursday 17 August; Peterlee Pavilion on Friday 18 August; Riverside Park in Chester-le-Street on Saturday 19 August and Town Park in Newton Aycliffe on Sunday 20 August,
Recommended for ages five and above and their families, all performances are free with no booking or tickets required.
All performances will also be British Sign Language interpreted.
