A community champion has been shortlisted in the regional finals of a major charity awards movement after committing her life to volunteering.
Local volunteer Carol Briggs is one of three regional finalists in the category of ‘Outstanding Individual Contribution to Charity’ category of the North East Charity Awards.
The awards are designed to recognise the hard work and innovative thinking by local charities and individual fundraisers, while also celebrating the businesses and employees who help to support the work of charities.
Carol is a well-known local lady who has dedicated her life to helping others – giving over 50 years to volunteering.
She has contributed a huge amount to the Pioneering Care Partnership and has been involved from the very beginning providing support and ideas to develop the concept in 1998.
Over the past 20 years she has led the governance arrangements as chair for 16 years and vice-chair for two years, and she still continues to provide unwavering support as a trustee.
PCP chief executive Carol Gaskarth said: “Carol has always been acutely aware of the value in bringing people together and providing social opportunities to improve health and wellbeing.
“She is a very practical, hands-on person and is extremely compassionate and caring.
“Carol has a skill of creating inspiring ideas, galvanising support and seeing the ideas develop into reality.
“The Pioneering Care Centre is testament to this approach and without the foresight of a number of local people, including Carol, we would not achieve half as much.
“She would be a very worthy winner and we wish her the very best of luck.”
The winner will be announced at an awards dinner on October 11. Carol will be attending with her family and PCP friends.
