People looking to keep fit while staying safe indoors during the coronavirus pandemic can now take part in free online exercise classes.
Durham County Council has launched a series of virtual classes which will be free of charge during their initial period.
From gentle yoga classes to active HITT, the varied timetable of sessions is now available on demand via the mywellness app.
For each activity, residents can follow a programme to learn the basics and build up confidence and technique in the comfort of their own home.
The mix of classes will be led by fitness experts from TechnoGym, as well as the familiar faces of instructors and coaches from the council’s own leisure centres.
The classes are a complimentary offer for the county’s residents to stay fit and healthy while leisure centres remain closed due to the current national lockdown and coronavirus restrictions.
Cllr Carl Marshall, Durham County Council’s Cabinet member for economic regeneration, said: “While we are all currently staying indoors to keep ourselves and others safe through the coronavirus pandemic, we know many people have been finding it difficult to maintain their healthy habits, such as exercising regularly.
“Our online programme has been designed to make it more accessible for people to exercise at home and keep active during the pandemic while services, such as our leisure centres and fitness classes, are unavailable.
“Our health has never been so important, so whether you miss taking part in your usual weekly classes, are struggling to find ways to exercise while staying safe indoors, or would just like to try something new, the virtual sessions will be available for residents to take part in and enjoy.”
Before taking part in any of the virtual classes it is important that people read the health commitment statement provided.
Those who would like more information about accessing the my wellness app can email [email protected] and a staff member will be available to provide assistance during office hours.
