Newton Aycliffe have made their second move of the summer as attacking midfielder Christian Selby has signed for the 2013-14 campaign.
The 20-year-old former Hartlepool academy prospect has followed goalkeeper Dan Molyneux from Billingham Town.
Selby, who can also play up-front, started his career with Pools before having spells at Thornaby and Billy Town.
Last season he made 14 appearances for Town, scoring four goals along the way.
He ended the campaign in a rich vein of form, by netting three times in the club’s last four matches as they successfully avoided the drop into Division Two.
Molyneux, 25, was a key figure as Carl Jarrett’s men avoided relegation last season, and counts Esh Winning, Whickham, Shildon, Dunston, Bishop Auckland and Washington as former clubs, before his two-year spell at Bedford Terrace.
As a youth, Molyneux progressed through the Academy system at Darlington – ironically alongside Pocklington – and currently runs his own Goalkeeping Academy.
The ‘keeper is the first new signing for the club which has seen several of last season’s squad depart, including skipper Sean Tarling and defender Darren Craddock.
They join Paul Broom, John Close, Danny Earl, Danny Lambert, Stephen Gibson, James Oliver and last season’s player of the year Stuart Owen in having signed on at the club.
Further renewals are expected in the coming weeks, while Allan Oliver and Gary Farley are hopeful of making further additions to the squad ahead of the start of pre-season training on June 24.
Midfielder Tom Hinchley will be absent for the 2013-14 season as he has jetted off for a new life in Australia while striker Sean Reay has joined Dunston.
Winger Kris Hughes is in talks with several clubs and is not expected to be part of Oliver’s plans.
