Newton Aycliffe Leisure Centre is launching its new programme this weekend with a day of free activities suitable for all the family.
The centre is now running sessions including aqua cycle and aqua jump – putting the traditional gym classes into the water.
Aqua cycle includes state-of-the-art bikes submerged while users pedal against the resistance of the water, while aqua jump uses underwater trampolines to improve strength, conditioning and core stability.
Taster sessions of the new classes will take place between 3pm and 4pm on Saturday, with each lasting around 15 minutes.
Earlier in the afternoon, under-fives can join in with a Ready, Sett, Splash session in the small pool where they can play and invent their own games as well as meeting Brock the badger and his friends between 2pm and 3pm.
At the same time, children over eight can have fun on the inflatables in the large pool.
Places for the aqua classes and under-five’s session are limited, please call Newton Aycliffe Leisure Centre on 03000 266 446 to book a place.
The gym at the leisure centre will also be holding tours every hour between 11am and 3pm, with the opportunity to find out what’s on offer and sign-up for a membership.
Away from the pool, the library will also be holding a drop-in session from 11am to 12.30pm where children can design their own swimming costume.
For each of the three age categories – two to five years, six to ten years and 11 plus – there will be a group winner who will receive a free family swim pass and a goodie bag.
To celebrate the launch of the new pool programme, residents are also being offered 25 per cent off an annual swim membership when they join at their local leisure centre.
Rather than paying the usual cost of £22.50 a month, people will pay £16.87 a month for a whole year should they join in November.
