Newton Aycliffe NPT Sergeant Mark Edwards continues his weekly blog on Aycliffe Today…
It’s that time again. Hello all.
It’s been a busy week at Aycliffe – lots happening in the town and with the team here. Where to start? I guess the beginning is always the best place!
In the last blog I made reference to a van that had been broken into on Clarence Green. On the subject of vehicle crime we received a report last Thursday (March 8th) of another van that had been broken into on Marley Road. On this occasion a collection of Mikita power tools were taken. Following later information received and other enquiries conducted the NPT, Response Team and Officers from the Vehicle Crime Team attended the Middridge area where an adult male was arrested on suspicion of that earlier theft. He is now on bail whilst further enquiries are progressed.
We are now going to operate a ‘name the offender’ process whereby details of those persons who are charged and/or convicted of offences will be released.
Watch out for details in either the local media, this site itself, our Facebook and Twitter pages.
I have no doubt that there will be mixed opinion on this but that’s Policing for you – we can’t keep everybody happy all of the time (or something to that tune). So, on that note…
Members of the team travelled to Ferryhill yesterday morning after we received a possible identification in relation to a shoplifting suspect from an incident at Wilkinson’s back in February where a quantity of razor blades were stolen totalling £127.76. An adult female was arrested and during interview fully admitted the offence. Geraldine Amanda Wynn was subsequently charged with the offence and will be appearing at court soon. I’m sure most of you will have heard of Crimestoppers and some may be sceptical as to whether it actually works or not. All I will say is – this result may not have come about had someone not picked up a phone!
Lynne Michelle Pogson, who is subject of an ASBO, was arrested by some of the team at the back end of last week for breaching bail conditions that had been placed on her by the courts in respect of previously breaching that ASBO. She was again presented to the court.
An 18 year old female – Kayleigh Marie Young from the town – was arrested on Monday evening for damaging the windscreen of a car with a brick in Guthrum Place. That same female, on the same evening, also stole food items from the Total Garage on Burnhill Way. She was charged with those offences and remanded in custody to be put before the court, and now she is serving a four-week custodial sentence.
The team are continuing to hold access points at locations across the town. There is the regular location in the town centre next to Café Pronto on Upper Beveridge Walkway as well as Neville Parade Community Centre and TESCO. Watch out for details in the usual manner.
Anyhow, I remember my past promise regarding ‘short but sweet’. Speak soon
Be good!
