Newton Aycliffe NPT Sergeant Mark Edwards continues his weekly blog on Aycliffe Today…
Well here I am again.
First off I’d like to let everyone know that we now have a new Neighbourhood Inspector based here at Newton Aycliffe following the recent retirement of Andy Neill – his name’s Mark Hall.
Mark has only been with the team since the start of this week and is finding his feet (fast!) as we bring him up to speed with issues in the town. He’s no stranger however to the world of Neighbourhood Policing or to Newton Aycliffe.
As for the rest of the team, what have we been up to?
As those of you who check out this site will know, we executed a Magistrates Search Warrant at an address in The Ballarat last week which came about following various concerns that had been expressed over suspect activity at the premises in question.
A small quantity of what were suspected to be controlled drugs were recovered and one adult male was arrested.
I would encourage anyone who has concerns over drug dealing to contact the Police or to report it via Crime-stoppers.
It may take some time to see a result but, believe me, it is acted upon. There is a lot of background work that takes place before a warrant is obtained.
A few tit-bits to do with what else has been happening lately…
A 25-year-old male was charged on Sunday with taking a motor vehicle without having the consent of the owner – after having stolen the keys for the vehicle from an address on the Agnew Estate, he had later been stopped by officers from the Road Policing Unit driving the car in question, a black Ford Fiesta, whilst under the influence of drink. He will be appearing at a court near you soon!
An 18-year-old male was arrested and charged on Monday with making off from a taxi without paying after having been brought through to Newton Aycliffe from the Spennymoor area. He too will be meeting the magistrates very soon.
Between 4.25pm and 4.55pm on Thursday March 1, a Ford Transit van was broken into whilst parked in Clarence Green. The suspect had smashed the driver’s door window and leant inside where various items, including a sat-nav, were stolen.
Witnesses report two suspicious looking males who had been sighted in the area close to the times in question – one male wearing a green jacket, the other wearing a grey hooded top.
This crime took place around tea-time and there is every possibility that someone may have seen the persons described above and may be able to provide more thorough descriptions or even names.
I would appeal to these persons to come forward, again either to ourselves on the NPT or to Crime-stoppers.
The weeks ahead will see the team taking positive action against those persons engaging in anti-social behaviour.
Amongst those locations where there have been repeat calls lately is the Webb Close area. Various measures are in place and a list has been compiled of those persons identified as been responsible – they can expect visits very soon and those persons found committing ASB by the team will be dealt with accordingly.
Right, well that should do for now. Until the next instalment…
Be good!
