NPT Sergeant Mark Edwards continues his regular blog on Aycliffe Today…
Hello again,
We’re now a couple of weeks into 2013 and the team have been busy working away at addressing issues across the town.
On Thursday this week, the team – assisted by our colleagues from Response – executed a Magistrates Search warrant that had been obtained under the Misuse of Drugs Act at an address in Skipton Close.
This arose following concerns that had been expressed by residents as to suspicious activity at the premises.
Once inside a quantity of controlled drugs were recovered along with associated growing equipment.
Two males, aged 34 and 29, and one female, aged 23, all of Polish descent, were arrested on suspicion of being concerned in drug production.
They were questioned by members of the team and following the outcome of the investigation all have received Adult Cautions in relation to their involvement.
I would like to reassure residents that we do listen to concerns over drug misuse. Unfortunately it sometimes take awhile to build up a picture of evidence with which we can obtain a magistrates search warrant so all I would ask is that residents ‘bear with us’.
PCSO Mike Welch is approaching his last week with the team before he leaves us. I would like to thank him for all the exceptional work he has done for the team and the community during the past two years that I have been on the Neighbourhood Team. I am hopeful that once through his training as a ‘regular’ that he returns to us later in the year as a PC. Watch this space on that one.
We’re obviously experiencing the kind of weather conditions that result in an increase in snowball related activity – what I mean in a nutshell is the throwing of snowballs.
Historically the number of incidents relating to (predominantly) youngsters throwing snowballs goes up. All I would ask people to consider is ‘do you really need to contact the Police in relation to such activity?’
It goes without saying that residents should pick up the phone if damage is caused as a result of reckless actions but for routine occurrences is it necessary. The more snowball related matters that Officers attend could have an impact on those more serious incidents that require Officer attendance.
The new Durham constabulary website is up and running now so check it out at www.durham.police.uk. You can now see who your local NPT Officers are by searching for Newton Aycliffe under the ‘Your Neighbourhood’ section of the site.
I sense a few results coming along…
Benjamin Luke Clish, 20, from Aycliffe, appeared at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates Court for theft from another and was made subject of a community order. He was also ordered to pay £150 costs to the Crown Prosecution Service.
Nathan Kevin Gary Kerr, 18, from Hartlepool, appeared at the Magistrates Court, also for theft, and was made subject of a community order. He was ordered to pay compensation to the victim of £60.
John Carl Smith, 48, from Middride, was convicted at the same court for drink driving. He was banned from driving for 18 months and fined £270 and ordered to pay £85 costs to the CPS.
More next time….
Be good!
