Newton Aycliffe NPT Sergeant Mark Edwards continues his weekly blog on Aycliffe Today…
Hello all,
It’s been busy of late here at Newton Aycliffe…
Members of the NPT worked alongside our Serious Crime Team earlier last week following up enquiries in relation to two reported burglaries that had been reported from the Guthrum Place area of the town – as a result two males from the town were arrested.
One, a 22-year-old, was charged with the offences and kept in custody to go before the court. He was subsequently released on bail with conditions to stay out of the area.
The second male, 20, was also charged with burglary and bailed to the magistrates court. The team are now working in partnership with the housing providers to target these people further via their tenancies.
We have observed a rise in reports of theft from motor vehicles this past couple of weeks.
I would like to ask all vehicle owners to remember the three ‘C’s’:
Clear valuables out of your car and if you need to store them in your vehicle at least keep them out of sight from opportunists by locking them in the boot.
Take Care where you park your vehicle and if you have a garage consider using it as this will dramatically reduce the chances of you becoming a car crime victim. Not everyone will have a garage therefore, if at all possible, park in a well-lit street or busy area or secure car park.
Consider making life more difficult for thieves and use theft resistant number plates which are widely available online. Stolen number plates can be transferred onto vehicles which are then used to commit driving offences and other more serious crimes. Pick-ups, 4-by-4’s, vans and high-performance cars are always particular targets for thieves and owners of such vehicles need to be extra vigilant.
The above guidance is outlined in a letter that members of the team have been distributing to residents across the town. However for more information you can visit www.durham.gov.uk/vehiclecrime .
Overnight on Wednesday 25th April into early morning on the 26th, a business premises was broken into on Ridgeway on the Business Park – amongst the items stolen were two laptop computers, one a red Samsung make and the other a black ASUS model.
The offenders had forced an alarm box off the wall before forcing a rear fire door allowing them entry.
Earlier this week a male from the Newton Aycliffe area was arrested on suspicion of being involved in this crime. However, he has since been eliminated from the enquiry.
During the burglary a set of vehicle keys were stolen and during the afternoon of Tuesday 1st May offenders have returned to the premises and a silver Mitsubishi Outlander ’56 registration was stolen. There are extensive CCTV enquiries that the team have been busy progressing.
Well, that’s the doom and gloom out of the way – what about the results?
A 25-year-old female from the Ferryhill area was charged today with the theft of clothing from Boyes in the town centre. She will shortly be appearing at court.
On Tuesday evening a 33-year-old male from the Darlington area was arrested in relation to an incident that occurred at Tesco, he was subsequently cautioned for a public order offence.
Our new PCSO, Chris Noble, started work with the team on Monday and hit the ground running as he found himself plunged into the middle of several various investigations.
He did, however, make his first PACT appearance at the Woodham meeting on Monday evening – the area he has ‘adopted’ alongside PCSO Amy Jorgeson.
Our new PC, Paul Rogers, also joins us in the next two/three weeks and will be taking over the role left vacant by Helen Inglis when she departed Aycliffe for the (less) sunnier climes of Darlington.
That’s all, for now. Keep following the team on our various social forums and enjoy your bank holiday (those of you lucky enough to be off, anyhow).
Be good!
