Newton Aycliffe-based Tekmar Energy has been awarded a contract to supply its cable protection technology to a Dutch offshore wind farm.
Dutch maritime contracting firm Van Oord has selected the patented Tekmar Cable Protection System (CPS) TekLink for the Borssele 2 (site III and IV) offshore wind farm.
Borssele 2, consisting of 77 turbines and a total of 731.5 MW, will go into construction off the coast of Zeeland, the Netherlands, in 2020.
Tekmar Group CEO James Ritchie said: “We are delighted that Van Oord has chosen Tekmar for Borssele 2.
“This continues our trusted relationship together following the successful award from Van Oord for Deutsche Bucht and BorWin3 earlier in 2018, and continues our success on Borssele following the award of Borssele I and II by Ørsted in July.”
As part of the project, Tekmar will be supplying their latest TekLink Generation 8 cable protection system.
Tekmar Energy director Jack Simpson added: “We continue to innovate to help clients reduce cost and risk for the next generation of offshore wind farm developments.
“Clients choose Tekmar due to our track record, commitment to HSQE and overall cost savings via lifetime product reliability and product performance during installation and operation.
“Cable protection systems are a vital product for protecting the electrical infrastructure of the wind farm projects. To coin the phrase, the chain is only as strong as the weakest link.”
The product will be produced within Tekmar’s state-of-the-art manufacturing facility on Aycliffe Business Park.
Borssele 2 mark Tekmar’s 65th project within the industry, taking the total number of systems over 6,200 and 21GW of protected electrical infrastructure worldwide.
Tekmar Energy is one of Tekmar Group plc’s three primary operating companies, in addition to and Subsea Innovation and AgileTek Engineering.
