A new support group set up to help young women diagnosed with alopecia has been boosted by a donation.
Alopecia Support County Durham, based at Pioneering Care Centre in Newton Aycliffe, has received £300 from the GALAXY Hot Chocolate Fund.
Alopecia Support is a newly-formed support group for women aged 16 and over who have been diagnosed with the autoimmune disease.
Sufferers can often feel self-conscious, isolated, and depressed and the group provides a friendly atmosphere where members can come and talk to others who have been affected, receive tips and advice from wig makers, beauticians and tattoo artists, try relaxing massage tasters and take part in confidence building sessions.
Catriona Grime and Angie Cooke formed the group.
“We have only been running for a few weeks and the costs of room hire, beauticians and therapist are always a challenge,” said Catriona.
“This donation from the GALAXY Hot Chocolate Fund means that we can now ensure our first meeting in April is a huge success.”

“The GALAXY Hot Chocolate Fund aims to give them a helping hand and hopefully inspire more people to get involved.”
