Woodham Academy students took part in the annual Children in Need fundraising fun last weekend, raising £1,000.
Woodham has been raising money for the charity for the past six years, under the supervision and organisation of Jenny McLean, Student Welfare Officer.
The whole school actively participated in the event, in terms of sponsored silences, fancy dress and the sale of raffle tickets in order to win a Pudsey cake made by resident Chef, Linda Vipond. In addition to a raffled cake, other treats were made and sold during break and lunch time.
The day was a resounding success, allowing a day of fun to be both constructive both in terms of raising money and awareness for the cause of Children in Need.
The day started with a guest appearance from Pudsey himself who welcomed the students into school. He was so impressed with the students that he decided to stay for the whole day, spending time in lessons and enjoying lunch in the dining hall.
Throughout the day, students were witnessed braving the cold dressed in their pyjamas.
Y11 boys Rhys Morton and Jake Marshall dressed as little Britain’s Emily and Florence.
Both boys acted like true ladies throughout the day raising £250. All Y7 students were encouraged to take part, some organising a sponsored silence or fancy dress.
Y7 tutor, Mrs Warburton, organised a tombola, book stall and nail bar. The students made a massive effort in both raising money and their positive attitude towards the event. As a result the students were a huge credit to Woodham.
The students, teachers, staff and other contributors managed to raise a very impressive £1,000.
