As part of the Leadership Academy, 60 Woodham students from Year 8 and 9 completed a weekend residential at Derwent Hill Outdoor Activity Centre in Keswick.
The focus of the weekend was centred on outdoor education, learning many different skills, surrounded by the stunning natural landscape of the Lake District.
Students took part in a series of outdoor activities, such as canoeing in Derwent Water, hill walking, caving and ghyll scrambling, where students negotiated their way through streams, pools and waterfalls.
One of the greatest challenges was the high and low ropes course, which involved students climbing up a tree and completing a free jump from a platform.
“They learnt how to use high rope equipment and about the safety aspects needed to complete the challenge,” said the school.
“They developed confidence, resilience and improved social skills. All students worked in small groups, alongside highly skilled instructors to complete the activities, working both independently and as a team to overcome the challenges presented.
“All students challenged themselves, thrived off the weekend and developed many new skills.”
