A project to help families through difficult times is encouraging people to take part.
Strengthening families is a seven week programme for families with ten to 14-year-olds where behaviour management is becoming difficult.
Run by Sure Start, the course engages families in problem solving, learning about rules and consequences and exploring ways to show love and support.
Durham County Council family workers and parent support workers work alongside anti-bullying staff and the Community Alcohol Service to deliver sessions.
Colin Pattison, from Brandon, recently attended the programme with his teenage daughter Natalie.
He said: “I just can’t thank the team enough as we’ve both got a lot out of the course and I just cant put into words how much support we have received.
“Now I have had my eyes opened at not only what I thought Natalie was doing wrong but also where I have been going wrong myself.”
Eight parents were successfully helped through a recent course at Laurel Avenue Children’s Centre and a second one is due to begin at Pittington Primary School in September.
