Half Term at Greenfield Arts was a great hit with all the family, offering story making and craft sessions that everyone could get stuck into.
The school’s Family Fun Day offered everyone the chance to experience a ‘story’ with a difference alongside talented storyteller Ken Patterson; using props and musical instruments they recreated fairy tale classics with enthusiasm and delight and were inspired to create new stories of their own.
Families had great fun making ‘mechanimal’ puppets with the help of our fabulous Cree volunteers, bringing the puppets to life and creating original characters.
The children were also able to try out our Story Makers app with artist Anne Curtis which takes story making online and gives users the chance to create characters and stories using their own ‘mechanimals’.
The day was part of a wider project funded by GAMP AAP which aims to encourage story making and improve literacy. The app can be accessed via the app store, just search ‘Greenfield Arts StoryMakers’ to make your own creature and bring it to life!
Greenfield Arts was also at some new venues this holiday, as part of their plan to expand their holiday offer.
The popular ‘Crazy Crafts’ hit the road and could be found at The Foundations Building, Shildon and the Eco Centre at Moore Lane, where Dawn Belshaw conjured up her usual magic by helping children create fairy houses and fabulous wind-chimes from recycled and natural materials.
The young people enjoyed getting messy and creative and were able to take some fabulous pieces home with them.
