Newton Aycliffe manager Allan Oliver has told Aycliffe Today that staying up this season is his biggest achievement in football.
The Ebac Northern League club had a difficult 2012-13 campaign, struggling at the wrong end of the top flight for the majority of it.
But they rallied towards the end and finished 17th in the table – some 12 points away from the relegation places.
After a number of successful seasons, which has seen Aycliffe climb four leagues in recent years, Oliver admits it was his most difficult season to date.
In a Video Interview with Aycliffe Today, Oliver said: “Regardless of anything we’ve done in the past – winning promotion, winning the Wearside League, winning cups in the Durham Alliance – nothing compares to keeping Aycliffe in the first division.
“It’s my greatest achievement in management.”
Oliver was talking to Aycliffe Today earlier today (Friday) during an Aycliffe Business Park event at The HUB Workspace, when he appealed to businesses for corporate support this summer ahead of the 2013-14 season.
