Newton Aycliffe FC are asking their fans to help with ground maintenance next week as they continue preparations for next season.
On Saturday June 30, the club are inviting volunteers to an official ‘spruce up day’ to ensure the ground is in top condition for the club’s pre-season commitments, including the visit of Premier League side Sunderland on Friday July 20.
It is one of a number of tasks the club’s committee have worked on through the summer as the Newtonians look to improve on last season’s ninth-place finish in the Northern League first division.
The club have already made three high-profile signings as they look to challenge further up the table this season, with Kris Hughes, Martin Young and Gavin Barton joining Allan Oliver’s side.
Off the field the club have started up a ‘Give Us a Quid’ campaign, backed by Champions League winner Ross Turnbull and Olympic hopeful Jason Steele, as the Newtonians aim to raise more funds.
Aycliffe Sports Club have invested almost £2,000 towards maintaining the playing surface, widely recognised as one of the best in the league last season.
Volunteers can now play their part by offering their skills to various tasks around the ground that need carrying out.
Fans are asked to report to Moore Lane Park any time after 9am next Saturday, and will be provided with complimentary bacon sandwiches and refreshments.
