The winners of the ‘Design your own superhero’ competition hosted by the Office of the Durham Police, Crime & Victims’ Commissioner have been announced.
This year, the competition was placed online because the Annual PCVC Celebration of Local Superheroes event, which has been held for five consecutive years, could not take place due to the Covid-19 situation.
This annual family event brings together emergency services and voluntary sector partners such as the County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service, Teesdale and Weardale Search and Mountain Rescue, HM Coastguards, Victim Care and Advice Service, Crimestoppers, the ‘If you Care Share’ Foundation and many more, to showcase the incredible work they all do, and the roles they play in helping to keep our communities safe.
Steve White, acting Police, Crime and Victims’ Commissioner, said: “It is a great shame that this annual event could not take place this year due to the ongoing Covid-19 challenges.
“This event has always proven to be very popular and enables us to work with fantastic organisations who tirelessly work to keep all our communities safe.
“For this reason, I was keen to keep some aspect of the event alive for this year, so decided to run some of our popular competitions from the day online.
“We have had a great response and the standard of entries was very high, making it very hard to pick an overall winner for each age group.”
The winners of the competition will all receive a certificate and gift voucher. The winners are as follows:
KS1 winner is Eleanor aged 6 with her superhero to help the police.
KS2 winner is Jake aged 10 with his hero The Bluefire
KS3 winner is Catherine aged 13 with their heroes of doctors, police and her teacher.
