Snow and a lack of gritters is caused traffic chaos in Newton Aycliffe on Saturday night.
Around four-to-five inches of the white stuff has left a blanket of snow on the town.
But a lack of road gritters has left all roads in the town extremely hazardous.
Temperatures dropped to a perishing -6° Celsius on Friday and -4° Saturday evening.
But it’s expected to lift to around 5° on Sunday and, with bright sunshine, the snow will hopefully be short-lived.
Monday and Tuesday daytime temperatures are forecast to be 5°, and it’s predicted to be as high as 7° on Wednesday.
Aycliffe Today has been in touch with our local police and fire service today (Saturday), and at 6pm there were no reports of any incidents in the town.

February 6, 2012 at 12:30 pmI drove to Barnard castle on Saturday evening. If the police report no incidents it was pure luck because I skidded 4 times from dl5 til I left central ave. driving conditions were really bad. I never saw a gritter until I reached staindrop. I then saw Six. Surprisingly the road from staindrop to Barnard castle was clear. The roads were just as bad coming home the next morning. Where were our gritters?
