Police have been left sickened by a heinous crime in Newton Aycliffe after a defenceless family Guinea Pig was beheaded.
Aycliffe officers are now appealing for information after ‘Storm’, a pet owned by 16-year-old animal care student Emma Howells, was attacked and killed by evil thugs in the family’s garden near Greenfield School.
“The people responsible for this should hang their heads in shame,” condemned Aycliffe Neighbourhood Inspector Mark Hall.
“Not only has a terrible act of cruelty been carried out on a pet Guinea Pig, but the distress and hurt it has caused the family is very saddening.
“I think we’d all agree that an act like this is unacceptable, and I implore anyone who knows who is responsible to contact us.”
Former Woodham Community College student Emma, who is studying a national diploma in animal care at Houghall College in Durham, has been left devastated.
Her family own a number of animals, including three cats and six rabbits.
Mum Susan Howells told Aycliffe Today: “It isn’t something that’s in my mind to do to anyone or any living animal, so I don’t understand how people can do it.”
Aycliffe Neighbourhood Sergeant Mark Edwards added: “It’s an absolutely despicable act that has had such an impact on the family.
“It’s a very loving family, very animal-orientated, for them to come home and find this was absolutely deplorable.”
Aycliffe Today will bring you an emotional video feature on Sunday, after we interviewed the victim’s mum, Susan, about this horrific crime.

March 31, 2012 at 1:18 pmHistory shows that people who mutilate, torture or kill animals have a tendancy to become pathological killers. Just look at the Jamie Bulger killers!
The police should look at the people behind this horrific crime as future murders; I hope that they find them and justice be served.
