A group of beavers, cubs and scouts from the 1st Byers Green Scout Group visited Newton Aycliffe Sports Club to be put through their paces by club’s sports teams.
Coaches from Newton Aycliffe Cricket Club, Newton Aycliffe Football Club and Newton Aycliffe Rugby Union Football Club gave the children, aged between 6 and 14 years, a chance to experience the three sports and get an insight into how the players prepared for matches.
At the end of the evening they were also given the opportunity to pose questions to the coaches from the teams.
Cricket Club chairman Ian Palmer, who coordinated the visit, said “I saw that the scout group were looking to give the children different experiences and invited them along to the club to have a go at cricket, football and rugby.
“It was great to see all of the children enjoying themselves and having the opportunity to try different sports”.
Scout Group leader Lesley Swinney said “The sessions ran by the Sports Club were fantastic.
“The children all enjoyed themselves and we have had excited chatter about the night.
“A big shout out to the coaches who were brilliant with all of the abilities of the children.
“These sessions provided a great opportunity for children to try a sport they may not previously have thought they may like.
“One child in particular said he did not like rugby and was a little upset about trying.
“Fast forward two hours and the young child said he had a fantastic time and would be interested in joining a local club.”
