Hundreds of Aycliffe schoolchildren are getting a special insight into personal safety during a popular event on the town’s Industrial Park.
The Safety Carousels is a multi-agency event delivering a series of safety workshops to 8,000 year 6 students in the County Durham and Darlington area.
Held at The Workplace, they provide an interesting, engaging and interactive way of educating young people to be more aware of safety, as well as reducing the number of secondary fires, hoax 999 calls and instances of arson.
The six separate workshops are delivered in 30-minute slots throughout the day by a multi-agency team.
The workshops are:
■ Home fire and safety
■ Hoax calls and arson reduction
■ Internet safety
■ Road safety
■ Electrical safety
■ First Aid
Aycliffe Today attended one of the workshops earlier today and spoke to Andrew Allison, senior community safety officer for County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue, and Stevenson Way year 6 teaching assistant Candi Scot.
