Motorists are being advised of road closures at the Thinford roundabout area over the next three weeks.
Resurfacing work started today, which will mean some disruption for road users who use the route to and from Newton Aycliffe.
Part of the North section of the roundabout will be closed, with a diversion via the A167 in place.
Btewen 7pm and 6am, the A688 between Metal Bridge, to the East of Thinford, and Green Lane to the West, will be closed.
Diversions will be signed in both directions and two-way traffic will continue to run on the A167.
The closures, part of a wider improvement scheme in the area now called Durham Gate, started today.
