Two music lovers have joined forces to organise a music event this weekend to raise cash for sick Newtonian Nicola Maull.
Lisa Morrison and her friend Andy Lee, a local DJ and music producer, are hosting ‘Remedy’ – an underground house and techno night – at Planet Leisure on Saturday evening, from 7pm-1am.
The evening, which has been sponsored by a number of local businesses, is to help raise money for Nicola Maull, who was struck down with Neuromyelitis Optica Spectrum Disorder (NMO) in June 2015.
The 44-year-old Mum was bed-ridden in hospital after failing to respond to treatments, but was able to return home in the summer after friends raised money to adapt her house to accommodate her medical needs.
NMO is a rare disease, which attacks the optic nerve and spinal cord affects just one in 100,000 people.
Having spent almost a year at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, in Newcastle – some 35 miles from her partner and young son – Nicola returned home in June and is doing well.
But relapses can happen any time and are unpredictable, and can lead to further disablement and paralysis.
Lisa and Andy’s event has been sponsored by local firms including Ross Wright, Topstar Taxis, Crossfit All Out, Here, There and Everywhere, Perfection by Laura, Autoglaze, Convertmyvan.com, PJ Plastering, Workshop Supplies, Support Store, Andrews Landscapes, Pavs Munchies.
Tickets cost just £5 and are available from Planet Leisure, or £6 on the door.
