Our panel of three Aycliffe ‘experts’ give their predictions for this weekend’s game…
One point is award for the correct result (win, lose or draw), and three points are awarded for the correct scoreline.
No-one predicted the defeat at Billingham last week, so it’s as you were!
Scores on the Doors:
Glen Robertson – 16
Paul McGeary – 12
Dan Lewis – 9
This week, the trio aim to get more points on the board by overseeing the clash with Ashington.
Paul McGeary
We have to be buoyed by two great away draws against top-10 sides Bedlington and Celtic Nation in the past week, but Saturday’s reverse at Billingham Town is cause for concern, albeit I think had we kept 11 men on the field we’d have eventually hauled them back and won. That’s in the past now, and the boss should have a full squad to pick from again this weekend for the visit of Ashington, who just the other night stuck eight past Town! The Colliers have Marc Walton in their ranks, and he always seems to get a goal against us, while in Andrew Johnston and Glen Taylor they have ample back-up should Walton be mis-firing! I’m going to put a hex on Ashington, and take them for a comfortable win, in the hope that our lads prevent me from clawing ground back on Glen at the top.
Newton Aycliffe 2-4 Ashington
Dan Lewis
Perhaps given how the season as a whole has panned out for Aycliffe, results in the past week shouldn’t surprise us. Tough-looking away fixtures at Bedlington and Celtic Nation saw us return with two hard-earned but well-deserved points, whilst the easier looking fixture at Billingham Town saw the worst result and performance we have put in for some weeks. This week sees another very tough looking fixture on paper. Ashington’s result this week, an 8-1 hammering of Billingham Town, did much to help our league position, but also served as a reminder of their potency. I hope the lads remember the programme article up there, which basically made out we weren’t worthy of being on the same pitch as them, and use that as motivation, but I think it could be a tough afternoon for us this week.
Newton Aycliffe 1- 3 Ashington
Glen Robertson
This is going to be a great week. Aycliffe are going to move away from trouble, I’m finally going to see them win a game in person and I will also move further clear at the top of the panel’s leaderboard. How’s that for a trio of predictions?! Ashington are a top side and are scoring plenty, but they are leaking goals for fun as well. If the Royal Blues defend as they have done in recent weeks (the Billingham Town game aside) and the quick front players are clinical with their chances, then they can win this game. And a win will give the lads a huge confidence boost ahead of the must-win clashes with Newcastle Benfield and Durham.
Newton Aycliffe 2-1 Ashington
