A Newton Aycliffe taxi driver has had five points added to his licence after reversing into another car before driving off.
As reported in the Northern Echo, Graham Goff, of Greathead Crescent in the town, admitted failing to stop after an accident and failing to report an accident to police when he appeared at the town’s magistrates’ court on Tuesday.
Blair Martin, prosecuting, said the 60-year-old driver picking up a passenger from Cypress Grove in School Aycliffe, at about 6.30pm, on January 24, when he reversed into a parked VW Passat.
Mr Martin said Goff, who had four passegers in his car, got out to inspect the damage before driving away.
In mitigation, Liam Bryson said Goff had a clean licence and that he was driving at a very low speed.
He said Goff was manoeuvring around another taxi from the same firm when he collided with the dark-coloured Passat.
Mr Bryson said Goff did not think any damage had been caused, although it was later found it had.
Magistrates ordered Goff to pay £130 in fines and £100 in court costs, as well as adding five points to his licence.
