A round-up of this week’s football from Newton Aycliffe Junior Section.
With the snow fall leaving most games postponed, only three games survived the weather this week.
Under 7’s Juniors – Travelled to Cleveland Juniors in what looked like it would be tough match. Aycliffe trailed in the first ten minutes, but never let their heads drop, Aycliffe battled back to dominate the opposition in a fantastic display of passing and attacking football. Goals were scored by Colton (2), Felix K (2), Lincoln (2) and Reuben. MOTM which was awarded by the opposition was given to Lincoln for magnificent work all over the pitch.
Under 10’s Blacks – Travelled to Bedale, Aycliffe went behind to a well worked early goal from Bedale but soon got a hold of the game. Once they settled, Aycliffe played some fantastic football, some of the best this season. Aycliffe broke from defence and played the ball into midfield , the ball was played out wide to Fin who made a great run to the by-line before cutting across for Max to volley home the equaliser. Aycliffe then dominated and soon took the lead when a long-range effort from Tyler took a slight deflection and flew into the top corner. Aycliffe continued to create chance after chance but couldn’t convert. Into the second half Bedale come back into the game. It was a terrific performance by Aycliffe against a very good side. MOTM was Liam who was outstanding in goal and fantastic outfield in the development game.
Under 11’s Juniors – Still on a high from their performance last week, Aycliffe travelled to Riverside Juniors and put in another fantastic performance to come away a great result. Aycliffe took the lead in the first half, a great run from Phoebe down the right crossing the ball in for Jonah to slot it home. Some great saves from Dom & brilliant defending from Daniel, Matty & Sammy kept Aycliffe in the game. Into the second half Aycliffe were awarded a penalty which was won and converted by Isaac, Aycliffe then relaxed a bit too much allowing Riverside to pull a goal back. The whole team dug in again, played for each other and came away with a great result. Such was the performance it was impossible to pick one player for POTM, so this was awarded to four players. Dom for some brilliant saves, Daniel & Matty for solid defending & Jonah for great attacking play.
