Town MP Phil Wilson has sent his condolences to the family of Ann Bradshaw, after the 65-year-old died following a house fire in Newton Aycliffe last week.
And the Member of Parliament for Sedgefield is urging people to make sure they have a working fire alarm in their houses.
Mrs Bradshaw passed away at Darlington Memorial after the fire at Honister Place last Monday, while her 37-year-old son, Ian, survived and has since been released from hospital.
In the second part of an exclusive interview with Aycliffe Today, Mr Wilson said: “It’s a tragedy, and I offer my condolences to the family.
“My brother used to be a fireman, and he still goes on about having a working smoke alarm in the house.
“It’s just something that we should do automatically, to get a fire alarm in and make sure it’s working.”
