Sedgefield MP Paul Howell visited 3M’s Aycliffe site, which manufactures disposable and reusable respirators, to pay tribute to employees for their significant contribution to the Covid-19 pandemic response.
The plant was at the forefront of 3M’s drive to supply respirators throughout the crisis, doubling production last year to prioritise supplies to NHS staff and other healthcare and key workers.
Paul was hosted by plant manager Paul Hind (pictured above, right, with Paul Howell) and was introduced to 3M employees during a tour of the plant, stopping to see the respirator production lines as well as the research and development laboratory.
“We are all truly appreciative of the hard work 3M’s Aycliffe employees put in to help keep NHS and other key workers safe during the pandemic,” said Mr Howell.
“They did a fantastic job, working extended hours and having to adapt to new ways of working to maintain social distancing and ensure safety. My thanks go to each and every one of them.”
Paul Hind added: “It was an honour to host Paul, especially as it’s his first visit since his election.
“We are exceptionally proud of the part we played in the crisis response and how our employees stepped up to the challenge so magnificently.”
