MP Phil Wilson says he has a vision for Newton Aycliffe which will see it grow and prosper over the coming years.
Mr Wilson, Member of Parliament for Sedgefield and a Labour Whip, is excited at the prospect of several developments currently in the offing.
Tallents are currently expanding, creating more jobs, while Hitachi will bring around 500 direct posts and thousands more in the supply chain.
And Mr Wilson has told Aycliffe Today he expects the boom to bring more high street retail outlets to the town, once the new Aldi store opens later in the year.
In an exclusive Video Feature with Aycliffe Today, Mr Wilson answered questions from our readers.
“I’ve got a vision for the whole town,” he said.
“I want to see it grow, I want to see it prosper, and I want to see people being attracted to live here.
“One or two developments are actually leading to that. One is Hitachi, which as we know is going to be 500 direct jobs and thousands in the supply chain.
“We’ve got Tallents which is expanding now as well, and all these new jobs will mean people will need somewhere to live in the town.
“I want to see more affordable housing, and I want to see more executive housing, so the redevelopment of Woodham Golf Club is going to be essebtial for the town.
“I want to see more shops coming to the town centre, and I think with Hitachi, Tallents and the golf club, it will put more pressure on the developers and the owners of the town centre to develop this even further.”
