Newton Aycliffe’s Mayor says the new play area at West Park is just the latest outdoor facility provided by the Town Council which improves outdoor amenities for our young people.
Councillor Jed Hillary joined Olympic swimmer Chris Cook to officially open the new park near the Boating Lake, which cost £40,000.

Aycliffe’s new Mayor told Aycliffe Today: “It’s brilliant. This is just one of many play areas on the town and we do pride ourselves and keeping them to a really high standard.
“We’re in the process of planning a new park up at Woodham, opposite Cobblers Hall, which will include a MUGA (Multi Use Games Area).
“We opened the new MUGA at Moore Lane last year so this is continuing that rolling programme of developing the town’s facilities for our young people.”
Cllr Hillary says the Town Council recognises the importance of having outdoor facilities for young people.
“And it’s great to see them actually outside enjoying themselves rather than sat on their computers indoors,” he added.
“When you look around the county, and you look at Aycliffe, people are quite envious of the play facilities we have on the town, as well as the green and open spaces that we enjoy.
“That’s part of the ethos that the town was created around.”
