The driver of the four-by-four vehicle, a 38-year-old man from Durham City, suffered injuries to his back, chest and shoulders, which were not believed to be life-threatening. He was taken to Darlington Memorial Hospital by ambulance.
The 54-year-old male driver of the other vehicle, a Citroen Nemo van, was unhurt.
