A man has been arrested after a dog was found stabbed to death on Friday morning.
The 63-year-old was arrested after armed police were called to a house in the Woodhouse Close estate of Bishop Auckland, County Durham just after 6am today.
A woman alerted police after becoming concerned that a resident was attacking his dog with a knife.
When officers arrived they found a man armed with a knife and a dog which had died of multiple stab wounds.
The man threatened officers and after he refused to co-operate he was tasered.
A spokesman for Durham Police said: “The man made several threats to officers and refused to put his knife down. This led to armed officers being called to the scene.
“The man continued to make threats and refused to comply with police instructions. As a result, a baton round was discharged, followed by a taser.”
He has been arrested on suspicion of affray and is being questioned at Bishop Auckland police station where he was also medically examined.
It is understood that no one else was in the house at the time of the incident and no officers or members of the public were injured.
