It is widely known that being in work is good for people’s health and wellbeing, but it’s increasingly being recognised that a healthy workforce is beneficial to employers too.
By creating a positive, safe and healthy environment for employees, you can increase morale, improve employees’ work-life balance and, in turn, positively impact your business.
And OneGym, based in the heart of Aycliffe Business Park, is offering a variety of classes and corporate membership packages to suit all types of shifts and individual work-loads.
The obvious benefit of having a healthy workforce is that healthier employees are absent less often.
Healthy workers are more motivated to stay in work, recover from sickness quicker and are at less risk of long-term illness.
In addition, organisations stand to make substantial cost savings by promoting health in the workplace and reducing sickness absence.
So, in short, the healthier your staff, the healthier your profits!
“By simply promoting good health among workers and creating a positive environment for work, businesses could reduce employee turnover and recruitment costs,” says Paul Pearson, from OneGym (pictured above).
“There are a number of other significant benefits of a healthy workforce. By encouraging and promoting a healthy workforce, you can improve productivity, business performance, staff morale and employee engagement.
“As a business, you will also be able to reduce accidents and work-related ill-health, sick pay costs, insurance costs, and pressure on employees covering for those who are absent.”
With the expert advice and superb facilities on offer at OneGym, based on Durham Way South, they can help to keep employees alert and fit to work to their full potential.
There are also other significant and obvious benefits to keeping fit, including weight control and promoting better sleep.
Pearson adds: “As a general goal, aim for at least 30 minutes of physical activity every day. If you want to lose weight or meet specific fitness goals, you may need to exercise more.
“Remember to check with your doctor before starting a new exercise program, especially if you haven’t exercised for a long time, have chronic health problems, such as heart disease, diabetes or arthritis, or you have any concerns.”
OneGym at Aycliffe have a range of classes on offer during the working week, including 30-minute Metafit, Spinning, Kettlecise, Bootcamp and Xtreme Burn interval training classes early on a morning, at lunchtime and around 5pm.
“The 30-minute sessions can easily be squeezed into lunch breaks or be done before or at the end of the working day, with plenty of time to get changed before and after,” added Paul.
“They’re high-intensity work-outs, which means you exercise harder for shorter periods, but they’re the best and quickest way to get fit.
“And the best thing is everyone can go at their own pace, from the very beginners up to the more experienced, and there’s always a fantastic camaraderie and team spirit among those taking part – it’s meant to be fun and enjoyable!”
Brothers Paul and David Pearson opened their Aycliffe complex in April 2014 after successfully launching its first gym in Bishop Auckland.
They have since opened a third gym in Redcar, with more than £1.5m being invested in the first three, and are now planning a fourth near Ingleby Barwick, Stockton, and they are also about to invest significantly in some improvements at the Aycliffe site.
Memberships start from £14.99 a month, and members of OneGym benefit from using gyms at all their locations, which helps those who commute to work every day.
