Families of children and young people with disabilities can find out more about the services available to them in the future at a special event.
The open day, at Durham Town Hall on Thursday, 1 March, will give parents and carers of youngsters the chance to find out more about the move from children’s social care services to adult social care.
At least 20 stallholders will be on hand to offer advice and information about the services available to young people with disabilities as they grow older.
Visitors can find out about supported accommodation, day care and respite services, employment support, health and community services, leisure provision and numerous other services.
The Information Sharing Day is being organised by Durham County Council working with Making Changes Together, a parent support group.
David Shipman, Durham County Council’s strategic commissioning manager for adults, wellbeing and health, said: This is a fantastic opportunity for parents and carers to come along and find out what’s available through our adult services.
“It has been organised in direct response to comments made by parents through Making Changes Together and all the providers are looking forward to showing what they have to offer.”
The drop-in, which runs from 10.30am to 3pm, will be officially opened by Cllr Morris Nicholls, the council’s Cabinet member for adult services.
