A hit play will run in Darlington next month to help fund the town’s football club.
The comedy drama Alf Ramsey Knew My Grandfather runs at Darlington Civic Theatre from July 24 to 27.
It sold out at Durham Gala theatre in 2009 and transferred to Newcastle’s Theatre Royal in 2010, where it got standing ovations.
About the amazing story of West Auckland’s victory of the first World Cup in 1909, all profits from the Darlington Civic run will go to the 1883 DFC cause to rebuild Darlington Football Club.
Written by Ed Waugh and Trevor Wood, and directed by The Bill star Mark Wingett, Alf Ramsey is about the men and women of West Auckland overcoming the odds to succeed.
Alf Ramsey Knew My Grandfather runs at Darlington Civic Theatre, from Tuesday July 24, to Friday 27. Tickets cost from £10 to £20. To obtain, call the box office: 01325 486555.
