Residents are being given the chance to help shape the future of the swimming pool programme at leisure centres across County Durham.
As part of a review, Durham County Council is asking people for their views on how they currently use the pools, what is important to them and what activities they would like to see in the future.
The council has 10 public swimming pools across the county, which all feature a busy timetable.
This includes swimming sessions for adults and families, learn to swim programmes, club and school sessions along with other water-based activities such as inflatables, pool parties, aquafit, scuba diving and water polo.
The hope is that future timetables will encourage people in County Durham to be more active and take part in pool-based activities.
Cllr James Rowlandson, the council’s cabinet member for resources, investments and assets, said: “We know how popular our leisure centre pools are with so many residents, which is why we’re keen to hear their views on what future timetables should look like.
“The consultation also gives members of the public the chance to say what kinds of activities they would like to see on offer at the centres. We are determined to provide the best leisure offering possible for people of all ages in County Durham, helping them to stay active in the process.”
The council will be contacting clubs which regularly use the pools to seek their views on the new timetables, which will be implemented in January 2023.
Consett Leisure Centre is not included in the review as the site’s main pool is temporarily closed to allow for repair works to take place.
