Students at Greenfield Community College have settled well this term in a safe and supportive environment.
Learning opportunities have also seen an added dimension through an extensive extra-curricular programme.
Led by Mr Butterworth, subject leader for PE, the programme has attracted students from a range of year groups.
“We launched the extra-curricular programme three weeks ago and have had an extremely successful uptake so far,” said Mr Butterworth.
“Students from Year 7-10 have attended a range of sports that are on offer. We currently have 18 clubs running over the course of the week, a great start to the year.”
There has been a number of challenges in the planning and organisation of the programme with the current Covid pandemic, but staff have been fully committed to creating an extensive offer for students and have fully followed regulations in place to ensure the students can continue to access activities in an enjoyable and safe way.
The extra-curricular programme has been further supported by the reintroduction of the annual House competition ‘Race to Tokyo’.
This competition sees students in year 7 and 8 gain mileage for their respective tutor group for every club attended in a race to achieve the mileage from Newton Aycliffe to Tokyo first.
Tokyo is the venue of the 2021 Olympic games and this house competition has proved very successful once again providing additional motivation to attend extra-curricular clubs. Prizes for most committed pupils are awarded at the annual Sports Presentation Evening.
