Greenfield Community College is leading the way in developing creative approaches to learning.
The school that was designated a National School of Creativity in the former National Creative Partnerships programme is now championing creativity as one of three secondary schools within the North East Creative Collaborative Network.
Creative Collaboratives are funded by Arts Council England and arise from recommendations made by the Durham Commission which was commissioned to investigate the role of creativity in education.
Creative collaboratives act as test beds for improved practice to roll out to other schools.
There is a research project running at the school before the summer holidays with Year 7 students, linking English and Science.
The programme will develop further the creative skills of enquiry, resilience, reflection, collaboration, and responsibility. These are creative skills prized in Higher Education and by a wide range of employers.
The schools’ head teacher David Priestley said: “Our partnership with our own arts-based charity Greenfield Arts leaves us well placed to promote the very best of the Arts within our school experience.
“Spaces for creative learning and opportunities for collaborative projects with regional and national artists are being designed into the amazing new learning facilities planned as part of the rebuilding of the school in Newton Aycliffe.”
