EXCLUSIVE: By Martin Walker
Proposals for a multi-million-pound makeover of Woodham Golf Club were given the green light today.
Councillors sitting on Durham County Council’s planning committee voted unanimously to give provisional planning permission to the £32.1m development – which will secure jobs in Aycliffe and create more.
Washington Developments, an Irish firm, submitted an application for a £32.1m makeover, including improvements to the course, construction of 50 executive homes, a 75-bed four-star hotel and spa, and traffic calming and landscaping.
Aycliffe Today was at County Hall for the meeting this afternoon – and remember, we broke this story exclusively this afternoon! (That means we had the story first).
A full report will follow later, plus Video Interviews with Aycliffe North councillor Paul Gittins, a Durham County Councillor who backed the project, and Washington Developments’ planning consultant Philip Barnes.
