Woodham’s Sports Academy has had a fantastic start to the academic year, with many students accessing a range of sports and activities at lunch and after school.
Following the success of last year, the Girls Football Academy has grown.
Some of the girls are now playing for Sunderland Academy and Durham and Teesside’s Regional Talent Club (RTC).
The U14’s Girls team recently played their first fixture in the County Cup against Carmel College.
“The home game was the first of the season and after only one training session, the girls came together straight away and worked well as a strong team,” said manager Miss Eldrington.
With the score at half time 0-0, the students discussed with Miss Eldrington and coach Peter Hoyle tactics for moving forwards.
Starting the second half strong, the football team worked hard against Carmel, however they managed to score.
At 1-0 down, Woodham students knew what they had to do and pulled it back with a goal scored by Evie Pearson (Y9) and another scored by Amy Dowson (Y9).
Miss Eldrington added: “The girls played so well together, and it was a fantastic result for all of their hard work.
“A fantastic start to the season and we can’t wait to see them play in their next fixtures. Well done to all students on the U14 Girls Team.”
