Durham County Council is calling on house builders in the county to cash in on a new national fund designed to give the industry a kick-start.
With the deadline for expressions of interest now only a week away the council says it’s important firms big and small get their applications in to the ‘Get Britain Building’ fund.
Under the £400m Government initiative building firms who have planning permission for schemes involving more than 25 units, but who are in need of finance to move forward, can put in expressions of interest.
Durham County Council’s head of housing, Glyn Hall, said: “We would like to see as much of this £400m come to County Durham as possible, kick-starting the industry and creating much needed jobs as well as homes for residents.
“While I am sure the larger house building companies will be aware of the fund it may be that some of the smaller firms are not.
“Particularly in these difficult economic times I would urge any house builders with what are termed ‘shovel ready’ sites, to make the most of this initiative.”
Once submissions are made the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) will work with the council to discuss which bids move forward in the county.
Any builder or developer can apply for the funding as long as their scheme is over 25 units.
Expressions of interest have to be with the HCA by 30 January.
