Aycliffe police officers are implementing some preventative measures in the town thanks to council cash.
With ever-increasing cutbacks to public spending, our Neighbourhood Police Team are constantly looking for innovative ways to make the best use of their resources.
So they applied to Great Aycliffe and Middridge Partnership (GAMP) to help fund a new Community Safety Project.
GAMP has donated almost £5,000 which will help fund a range of policing measures.
The first lot has gone on a batch of new shed alarms, safety notices and UV security pens to enable residents to mark their property.
Officers have already started distributing them in the Burdon Close and Marshall Road areas of Aycliffe.
PCSO Gavin Laycock said: “We’re going into areas where there’s been a crime committed and there had been an incident recently.
“It’s just to make residents feel a bit safer and hopefully gives the public confidence in us.
“It’s a pretty close-knit community around here and I think the word will get around fast that we’re working alongside communities, with the help of GAMP’s donation, for the benefit of the whole community.”
Ken Robson, chairman of the Acorn Residents Association pictured with vice-chair Glenn Gibson and PCSO Laycock, added: “It’s the community’s way of fighting back, with preventative measures like this.
“We get involved and help as much as we can. We pass on information, but it’s nice to see the police come back and help with preventative measures such as these.”
