Football fans and the general public in Newton Aycliffe are being invited to help the town’s football club’s efforts to make a big step up this summer.
Newton Aycliffe FC won a historic Northern League title at the end of the 2022-23 season – and with it the option to take on promotion to the Northern Premier League, a first for the town.
The club has already been working hard since their promotion on ground improvements to meet strict league requirements.
But with so much to do ahead of the pre-season programme – due to start at home to South Shields on July 4 – the club is asking for local support.
Officials are hoping supporters, football fans and the general public of Aycliffe will spare two or three hours this Saturday (June 24, from 10am) to help with various tasks that will help the club get the ground up to scratch.
Chairman Allan Oliver – pictured above with assistant manager Dan Mellanby, manager Brian Atkinson and assistant manager Mark Wood – said: “We’re at a decent level of football, but ultimately, we’re still a grassroots club.
“We thought we’d hold a day to give the local community an opportunity to come and help out, maybe see the ground and facilities if they haven’t seen them before, see what we’re all about and play a part in our big pre-season preparations.
“We want to get more people involved with the club. You can’t get too much help in any walk of life.
“There’s lots of painting to do, general odd-jobs and we need to fix into place new perimeter fencing to meet league requirements.
“There’s lots to do but, as the saying goes, many hands make light work.
“We think we’re decent people here, we look after people and we’re looking forward to hopefully seeing some new faces as well as regular faces on the day.”
Everyone is invited to the SecuriCorp Stadium Moore Lane Park, from 10am this Saturday, June 24.
