Supporters of Newton Aycliffe FC and Newton Aycliffe Juniors FC were entertained to a night of comedy and football chat at Newton Aycliffe WMC on Friday evening.
‘The Legends’ of the three Big North East Clubs Malcom Macdonald, Bernie Slavin and Richard Ord were typically forthright in their views on their respective clubs, as well as plenty of opinions on other current football matters as they fielded a range of questions from the audience.
And they were joined on stage by hilarious North East comedian Terry Joyce, recent star of tv show Hebburn who had the crowd in fits of laughter with his many impressions and stories.
Aycliffe FC General Manager Dan Lewis said: “We hope everyone who came along had a good night, it certainly appeared that they did. We would like to thank everyone who helped out with the organisation of the night, as well as those who came along to support the two Clubs.”
With Aycliffe again being without a game this weekend due to West Auckland’s involvement in the FA Vase, the team have dropped another place in the Northern League First Division. They sit a nervous 8 points clear of the drop zone with a very tough run-in to the season.
The first of these games sees the Royal Blues host Spennymoor on Friday evening(4th April). Aycliffe went close to causing an upset earlier in the season when they were pegged back by Spennymoor in a 3-3 FA Cup draw. A similar scoreline would be very welcome at Moore Lane on Friday!
The game kicks off at 7.30pm with admission costing £6 adults, £4 concessions with u12s going FREE.
And following the game on Friday, the committee men are attempting to climb the highest mountain in England to raise funds for the Club on Saturday. They are still seeking pledges of sponsorship for the event, for details please contact Secretary Steve Cunliffe ([email protected]).
