County Durham and Darlington Fire Authority has secured government funding to invest in a new £1.8m control system.
The Authority submitted a bid to government for funding to invest in a new command and control system.
And they’ve been awarded £1.8m to improve efficiency with state-of-the-art technology for 999 call-handling and mobilising of fire appliances.
John Hewitt, the Services Director of Corporate Resources, said: “The announcement of the funding allows us to move ahead with our plans for a new control system that will improve efficiency and allow us to make use of the latest available technology.
“Local people can be assured that the Fire Authority will invest this funding in a system that will continue to provide a first class control and mobilising service whilst taking advantage of the latest technological developments to improve our efficiency and resilience.
“We are looking to use the former regional control centre building at Belmont in Durham as the base for the new system and as a headquarters.
“Discussions on the building are continuing and we hope to have this finalised shortly.
“Reports that a deal for the building has been concluded are not correct, however we are working hard to try and ensure our local communities in Durham and Darlington have the very best facilities that are available.”
