Newton Aycliffe steel specialists Finley Structures have struck up a strong working relationship with the rapidly expanding GMI Construction Group (GMI) after winning several contracts with the Leeds-based contractor.
GMI was formed in 1986 and has grown to become a well-established, successful building and construction services company with a proven track record for delivering award-winning projects for an international portfolio of developers, public sector clients and blue-chip companies.
The £120m-a-year Leeds-based firm, who also have offices in Manchester and Birmingham, recently announced that they are investing in the North-East by expanding their operations and creating employment as part of the company’s ongoing strategic growth plans.
Finley Structures have recently completed two projects for GMI, totalling 330 tonnes of steel, with an additional two yet to complete, encompassing another almost 1,600 tonnes.
Managing director Julie Raistrick said: “We are delighted to be working with GMI once again on these two further developments after recently completing projects in South Shields and the Wirral.
“GMI are an ambitious, rapidly-expanding business with a huge portfolio and a proven track record. As we continue to strengthen our reputation as one of the leading steel fabrication and erection firms in the country, we look forward to working with GMI in the future on more of their exciting, landmark projects.
“Our track record for delivering projects on time and within budget means we continue to win work up and down the country, from all major contractors, and we are delighted to add GMI to our high-profile portfolio of clients.”
Kicking off their new partnership with GMI, Finley Structures recently completed a 90-tonne project, building the steel frame for the Department for Work and Pensions new 12,000 sq ft office block in South Shields as part of the town centre’s repurposing (a CGI of the building is shown above).
The Aycliffe firm has also recently completed a 240-tonne project, to support fledgling start-ups and growing businesses within a new £7.7m, 34,000 sq ft state-of-the-art hub for flexible working within the Wirral Waters business development in the Wirral on Merseyside.
Finley Structures are currently undertaking another project for GMI, fabricating and erecting 1,200 tonnes of steel for The Symphony Group’s new flagship headquarters in Barnsley. This building will also include a 330,000 sq ft ultra-modern production warehouse facility for the group to manufacture their kitchen, bedroom and bathroom furniture.
Finley’s have also been awarded the contract for a 380-tonne project to fabricate and erect the steel for two of three industrial units at Logic business park in Leeds. Both speculative units are over 30,000 sq ft in size and are within the Leeds City Region Enterprise Zone, by Junction 45 off the M1.
