Newton Aycliffe’s cricket team earned a superb away win at Saltburn at the weekend.
Another excellent performance from all-rounder Luke Telford helped Aycliffe to victory over last year’s third division champions, earning Telford the man-of-the-match nomination for the second consecutive match.
In dry, cool conditions, Aycliffe’s first XI were elected to bat first and scored 169 all-out, with Telfod scoring 41, Joe Haines 30 and Graha Telford 16.
Aycliffe bowled Saltburn’s second XI out for 153, with Luke Telford taking four wickets for 34 and Matty Atkinson three for 24.
Aycliffe followed up their win with a hard-fought draw at home to Stokesley’s second XI on Bank Holiday Monday.
Aycliffe were 189 all out, with Graham Telford (58), Dan Craggs (38 not out) and Matt Atkinson (36 not out) the headline scorers.
Stokesley were 155 for seven after 50 over, with Colin Myers earning the MOTM award after taking an excellent six for 46 from a marathon 17-over spell.
Aycliffe’s first team now have 78 points from the first four games of the season and sit comfortably in the top half of the second division table, which represents a fantastic start for the town’s team.
- Aycliffe’s first XI go to Maltby to take on their first XI in the NYSD League second division this Saturday (1pm).
