Newton Aycliffe chairman Gary Farley says Saturday’s season-starting FA Cup match promises to be a special occasion.
The Newtonians welcome Holker Old Boys to Moore Lane Park on Saturday – kick-off 3pm.
Aycliffe’s much-talked-about FA Cup debut ended with a heartbreaking 7-2 defeat at home to Billingham Synthonia this time last year.
But chairman Farley is hoping the club embrace the unusual FA Cup kick-off this time around.
In a Video Interview with Aycliffe Today, he said: “I know we’ve talked about it before, but you go back four or five years and this was just a park in the Durham Alliance League and we’ve not got FA Cup football at Moore Lane Park.
“Yes we want to do better than we did last season and go into the next round, but to be involved in the competition is a fantastic achievement by everyone concerned.
“We’re a little bit more experienced this year, we have a bit more experience in the team.
“We’re at a slight disadvantage on that Holker have two league games going into this match, but we think we’ve covered everything, and it’s down to the lads now.
“Everyone is looking forward to it, there’s a real buzz around the club.
“It’s unusual to begin the season with an FA Cup match, but we’re excited and raring to go.”
